Union Street's Growing places!

18/12/2014

This week has seen the installation of Plymouth's first living wall, and it is on our new building Genesis.

The 18,600 individual plants have been fitted to six living wall strips, by staff from Biotecture.  The shrubs will be fed and watered by a hydrophonics system, conrolled by computer from Biotecture's headquarters and trimmed twice a year.  Next summer, our wall will erupt into colour as flowers bloom, attracting insects and birds.

Roger Pipe, Millfields Trust General Manager said:

" We removed a strip of green and wanted to put something back, and we thought this would make the building distinctive and give a message that it fits into the environment.  It will be something people will be interested in looking at."

Mark Fleming, Project Manager at Biotecture said:

"We are delighted to be involved in this landmark project - the largest living wall in the South West."
