Wowee! What an incredible day celebrating International Women’s Day 2023! We had a full room at our annual Celebrating Women in Business Networking Event with our friends at Social Enterprise Mark CIC.
Josanne Stewart, our Executive director, started the event with a wonderful speech about the current landscape for female leaders across the city of Plymouth:
“We would like to thank our LORD MAYOR Sue Dann for accepting our invitation and attending our event today.
I would like to take a moment to reflect on my last 5 months in post as the Chief Executive of the Millfields Trust. I have spent much of this time traveling around the City meeting lots of leaders and movers and shakers.
One of the things that have become apparent to me in the City is the number of women at the top of their game in Plymouth. I’ve had the privilege to meet quite of few of them over these last few months.
There seems to be a vibe going on, these women are strong, independent, and ambitious, yet caring, sensitive, and sharing. I like it. And what I also like is how the leading men in the City are standing shoulder to shoulder with the women.
I know this won’t always be the case and there will be exceptions to the rule, but for now, Plymouth has its fair share of fabulous women, both at the top of their game, on their way to the top, and everything in between. We’re great and we’re worthy of our own day of celebration.”
Lisa Clark founder of Moo Music Plymouth was our utterly FABULOUS & INSPIRATIONAL guest speaker.
She has built her own business from scratch to become one of the best-known preschool brands in Plymouth. Lisa is also a Business Advisor at Outset Enterprise Coaching.
MOO MUSIC’s multi-sensory sessions started with six babies in a church hall. Lisa now boasts 10 members of staff, her own play café on Mutley Plain, and hundreds of customers each week. She now employs a manager to run Moo Music day to day, while she focuses on mentoring other early-stage businesses to help them hit their goals.
We also had some fabulous sweet and savoury baked goods from one of our newest tenants Daisy at The Hot Buns Bakery!
A massive thank you to everyone who came along; it was a great day!
