Intergenerational Project: Connecting Communities

What a wonderful day was had by all at Millfields Inspired Intergenerational Project – Connecting Communities! Millfields Inspired worked in partnership with Collingswood Care, @Plymouth Care, St Josephs Primary School, Scott Medical College and Skills Launchpad to bring together 3 generations for lunch and fun activities.

Children sang beautiful songs, sat and ate their lunch with impeccable manners and engaged in activities with students and elderly clients where they produced badges and a tree of life of handprints where each individual took part.

Our work seeks to provide support for those in our community with connectedness, so that both children and young people develop supportive relationships with others and build confidence, respect and resilience.  This helps to foster skills, improves feelings of safety, and raises aspirations.

The socialisation of children with elderly residents through diverse and rich environments, helps to develop children’s social and cultural capital and broadens their understanding of the wider world, and themselves as individuals.

We would like to thank Plymouth College for the free transport so that the children could join us – their support has been invaluable this year and we really could not have done without them!

Additionally, we had some amazing food provided by YAYA’s in Stonehouse – the cakes were very popular with both young and elderly individuals.

Finally, a massive thank you everyone that took part – you were all amazing!
