Prior to the pandemic, the year 5 children in the Stonehouse primary schools all enjoyed the Widening Horizons programme. The children would be taken out of the classroom and visit different places of work with the main aim of inspiring them to think about what job they might like to do when they leave school. This year, to ensure the children still engage in our well-loved Widening Horizons, it has been absorbed into our newly created ’15 Things to do in Year 5’ programme. The children still find out about lots of different exciting jobs, but this year by lots of people zooming into their classroom to talk about their jobs and getting the children to complete some exciting activities with them. So far this year, the children have met engineers from SDS Builders, student doctors and dentists from Plymouth University, a marine biologist (a student from University of Plymouth) and a playwright (Plymouth’s very own Poet Laureate). The ’15 Things’ also includes other activities to encourage the children with life skills, community action and to think about their environment.

ON YER BIKE!  Launched in Lockdown, one of our tenants has launched MiB E- Bikes.  This family run company is based within the Millfields and said “our whole family has fallen in love with Electric Bikes, from the grandparents down to the grandchildren!”.  In the hunt for our own personal E- bike, we found that there was a shortage of UK based reasonably priced bikes, so we decided to build a range of bikes to make E-Bikes safer, more accessible and affordable for everyone.  Along with making sure the fun of E-Biking is brought to everyone, we also wanted to spread the other huge benefits that E-Biking can bring from improving your health to replacing car journeys and helping to save the environment. We believe that electric bikes can replace the majority of car journeys whether it is nipping to the shops or cycling to work electric bikes make it so much easier than regular bikes.  You can even finance your bike!  For more information visit their site.
