May and June have been a really time for us at the Millfields Trust. We said a fond farewell to our CEO Roger after 23 years of service to the people of Stonehouse. Oh, and we bought a pub! The Famous Firkin is going to receive a huge and much needed makeover. It’s time to bring this once much loved building back to life for the Stonehouse community.

Millfields Inspired: Widening Horizons
The Millfields Inspired team had a busy month working on the Widening Horizons Programme here in Stonehouse. The team want to say a huge thank you to Nancy and Emma, two Medical Students from the University of Plymouth who delivered biology lessons to local year 5 children. They completed their final session at St Peter’s Church of England Primary School and from everyone at Millfields Inspired, we wish you good luck for the future, and thank you for all your effort, enthusiasm and hard work!
Thank you to Cattewater Harbour Commissioners for hosting an amazing Widening Horizons event yesterday for the Year 5 children from The Cathedral School of St Mary. The children were able to explore their tug boat Prince Rock and board their new pilot boat Stamford. They also enjoyed an activity finding out about the origins of various commodities which come through the port. The children were treated to a boat trip in Plymouth Sound with Plymouth Boat Trips. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and really welcomed the children into their working environment. The children really enjoyed the experience and asked so many questions! It wouldn’t be a surprise to see some of the children seeking this type of environment for a career choice in the future- which is what Widening Horizons is all about!
