Millfields Trust: What’s On Stonehouse 2023 Edition

Welcome to our feature here at the Millfields Trust: What’s On Stonehouse. We share local events organised by businesses in Stonehouse and Plymouth that we hope will interest you. It’ll also be an opportunity for our tenants across all our sites, Genesis, HQ, Mary Seacole Buildings, and Creykes Court, to let us know what events or news the people of Stonehouse should know about.

Real Ideas – Making a More Inclusive Workplace

Real Ideas are hosting monthly networking/social events starting in January up until March. These events are hosted in partnership with Plymouth City Council to support businesses in the city as part of their commitment to inclusive recruitment. These events will be taking place at Market Hall on 11th January, 8th February, and 8th March. Lunch will be available at the cafe as discussions take place.

Over the duration of the C-Care support we are delivering, these meetings will take place monthly and the themes for each discussion will be determined by the group. The goal is to create a group of “critical friends” across the city and across all sectors which aim to reshape the employment narrative.

Intro to Print with Claire Armitage

Join artist Claire Armitage in an introduction to mono-printing.
The monoprint is a form of printmaking where the image can only be made once, unlike most printmaking which allows for multiple originals.

In this hands-on, experimental workshop we will explore monoprint, both with and without the use of a printing press, combining hand drawing, paper stencils and painterly mark-making with imprints from natural forms, mixed media and textiles.

Plymouth Print Social

Following in the footsteps of Plymouth’s first print festival Print in Action, Plymouth Print Social aims to be a connecting platform for printmakers, collectives, organisations, spaces and suppliers. It’s an open space, no matter what stage of your creative journey.

What to expect?

Plymouth is filled to the brim with printmakers, knowledge, facilities, resources, talent and collectively we are stronger working together. We’ll fuel the night with a drink and some food on arrival to get creative ideas flowing.

The second social is going to bring together conversations from the first social, inviting new topics and nurturing discussions.

We’ll be sharing news of a new open submission, with the chance to be part of a group exhibition later in the year at Ocean Studios, and we’ll be looking for willing volunteers and ideas to support regular print crit sessions. Plus you’ll see a re-imagined Ocean Studios, with a brief Introduction to our new presses in the café and the collaborators who are supporting them.

We want to hear your voice!
During the social, we want to hear your views so we can help enable meaningful outcomes and connections and prompt discussions around the following topics:

Collaboration

What do we want to do collectively?
What is missing in the city?
How do we grow events with the creative community, what do socials look like and what do we want to achieve?
How do we move forward?

Ocean Studios Cafe, Royal William Yard.
