Welcome to our feature here at the Millfields Trust: What’s On Stonehouse. We share local events organised by businesses in Stonehouse and Plymouth that we hope will interest you. It’ll also be an opportunity for our tenants across all our sites (Genesis, HQ, Mary Seacole Buildings, and Creykes Court) to let us know what events or news the people of Stonehouse should know about.
This edition of What’s On Stonehouse will showcase events happening over the upcoming half-term holiday and beyond in Stonehouse and surrounding areas within Plymouth.

Pop Up Swap & Shop
Nudge have literally lost The Plot for our FIRST Pop-up Swap & Shop event with FREE STEAM and sustainable fashion activities (to entertain the kids while you browse for pre-loved treasures)!
So how does it work?
SWAP: bring up to 10 items of GOOD CONDITION, CLEAN children or adults clothing to swap for comparable items FOR FREE.
SHOP: nothing to swap? You can just shop – bring cash or card and bag yourself some beautiful planet-friendly preloved bargains.
STEAM: FREE sustainable fashion, science, tech, engineering, art or maths activities for children, designed and facilitated by teachers.
STAY: bring your friends, grab a cuppa and cake, hang out, have a chat, tell us what you think and help us shape the future of It Takes a Village.
PLEASE NOTE: for hygiene reasons we cannot accept underwear or items that are stained, dirty or damaged. Damaged items can be DONATED for us to reuse and repurpose for future workshops but will not be eligible for swaps. If you wouldn’t wanna buy it, please don’t bring it. We don’t wish to cause offence but will have to politely decline anything that’s not up to scratch!
Items for swapping will be assessed and given a value/quality level. You will then be given tokens according to the value/quality of your items. So a pure wool adult coat will be given a higher value/quality level (and therefore be worth more tokens) than a toddler’s tee shirt. This is to ensure fairness.
Any very high value items may end up on our ‘sale only’ rail and only be available to buy. This is to ensure the event generates some income, enabling us to do more good stuff in the future!
The Plot, 80-84 Union Street, Stonehouse, Plymouth, Devon, PL1 3EZ

Plymouth Bonfire Night 2023
Remember, remember the fifth of November!
On Sunday 5 November, Plymouth Hoe will be lit up with a spectacular Bonfire and Fireworks display, with thanks to sponsors Plymouth Waterfront Partnership.
Make your way to the stunning backdrop of Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, where the bonfire awaits. You will also spot Guy Fawkes sitting on top of the bonfire, created by the amazing team at Plymouth Play Scrapstore! Bask in the heat from the grand lighting of the bonfire from 7.30pm.
At 8pm, the sky will burst into a dazzling display of fireworks. Watch in awe as rockets, fountains, and firecrackers paint the Plymouth sky from the Royal Citadel.
The excitement starts early, from 4pm onwards, with the Plymouth Hoe promenade transformed into a playground of fun. Thrilling rides for all ages will be in full swing, and there’s even a special children’s fairground for our youngest adventurers.
It’s a truly family-friendly event, so wrap up warm, bask in the heat of the giant bonfire and enjoy the show.

Plymouth Social Enterprise City Festival
Plymouth’s socially beneficial businesses are gearing up for an inspiring 14th Annual Social Enterprise Festival, organised by Plymouth Social Enterprise Network (PSEN).
Our city festival highlights and supports the amazing social enterprises working hard to create a kinder, fairer, and more impactful Plymouth. This year’s festival carries special significance as it marks a decade since Plymouth was designated as an official Social Enterprise Place by Social Enterprise UK.
The Plymouth Social Enterprise Festival has become a landmark event in the city’s calendar, promoting social entrepreneurship, forging valuable connections, and inspiring collective efforts to address pressing societal challenges through doing business differently.
The heart of the festival lies in its diverse showcase of local social enterprises. PSEN helps curate a range of member-led events, providing opportunities for social enterprises to open their businesses and activities to wider audiences and highlight their impact in our city.
Last year’s edition of the festival featured over 20 events across the city, from repair cafes and community cooking classes, through to business seminars. Join us for an unforgettable celebration of social enterprise and its transformative impact on Plymouth.
