At Office 17, Mary Seacole Road resides global animal welfare charity, Animals Asia. Working predominantly in China and Vietnam, they fight to end the brutal bear bile farming trade which sees more than 10,000 bears kept in tiny cages for up to 30 years while their bile is harvested for the TCM market. They have signed a ground-breaking agreement with the Vietnamese government to rescue the remaining 300 bears caged in Vietnam, and rehome them at their brand-new sanctuary, thus ending the trade there forever. They also work to end the cruel dog meat trade as well as the use of animals in entertainment.
Animals Asia Needs Your Help
The charity has a number of Volunteer Support Groups located all around the country, including one right here in Plymouth! They are on the look-out for like-minded animal lovers who’d like to become members of their little group. Whether you’d like to help with outreach on village stalls, help organise events such as quiz nights, or get crafty and help create gifts that can be used to raise funds – they’d love to hear from you!
Animals Asia recently raised money with stalls at Stoke Damerel Church and the Stoke Village Fun Day. Their next event will be at the Central Park Fun Day on 27th August. Either pop by their stall or send us an email at community@animalsasia.org to be put in touch with the Coordinators!
They also host regular teddy tombolas on their stalls. If you have any pre-loved (or new!) teddy bears that could use a new home, please feel free to drop them into us!
