We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported our World Ocean Day Family BBQ at Firestone Bay. As you can see from the pictures, we were blessed with some lovely sunshine and only a little bit of rain! Which didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits on the day.
The event was organised as part of the Widening Horizons Programme that works with local primary schools from Stonehouse and Devonport. For this World Ocean Day event Year 5 students and their families were invited to enjoy some food and fun activities on the beach. The local schools included: Millbay Academy, St George’s, St Andrew’s, St Peter’s, The Cathedral School of St Mary, Pilgrim Primary, Marlborough Primary Academy, St Joseph’s, and Mount Wise.
Volunteer Ambassadors from Turner and Townsend helped welcome families as they arrived and directed them to the activities. Thank you to those volunteers and to the organisations and individuals that came along to make the day such a success: Ocean Conservation Trust, The Shark Trust, the Marine Conservation Society, Plymouth Children’s Book Group, and Summerhouse Services. The Devil’s Point Cafe supported us by providing hot and cold drinks.
The BBQ itself was a massive responsibility. We were very fortunate to have the support of Kitty O’Hanlons, whose owner Ultan provided us with the necessary cooking equipment, and Chef Neil who prepared the hot food. Thank you!
